South Bend is a twin city of the Mishawaka, Indiana and is situated on St. Joseph River. It is the 4th biggest city of Indiana and the county seat of the St. Joseph County. The city is the cultural and economic hub of the Michiana region and is known to be the home of University of Notre Dame. South Bend is the main focal point of Michiana with 2nd busiest airport of Indiana, several big businesses like AM General, Crowe Horwath and Bosch and inter-urban rail service to the downtown Chicago.

As the city serves as a transportation hub of Michiana, the South Bend Regional Airport connects the city to several larger hubs like Atlanta, Cincinnati, Chicago O’Hare, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Detroit, Las Vegas, Orlando, St. Petersburg and Minneapolis. The airport lies off the US 31 and Indian Toll Road in north-west corner of the South Bend. More than 1,000,000 pass through this airport, making it the 2nd busiest airport of Indiana. Several airlines, mainly United Airlines, serve several cheap flights to South Bend all year round all throughout the day.

The South Bend Regional Museum of Art has a collection of 850 works from Michiana and South Bend artists and also offers workshops and classes for children and adults. Copshaholm is a 38 room mansion built in 1895 which is now listed on the National Register of Historical places. South Bend also has Morris Performing Arts Center which including the Palace Theatre which features vaudeville acts. The arts center also features the Palais Royale Ball room, South Bend Symphony Orchestra and Broadway Theater League. The South Bend Civic Theatre includes a black box studio theatre for 90 people and main stage auditorium for 2009. Apart from more than fifty parks, recreational areas and golf courses in the city, the Potawatomi zoo is the oldest zoo of Indiana and features more than 400 animals in 23 acres. South Bend is also home to the first artificial whitewater course for competitive kayaking, rafting and canoeing and other recreational activities.

When to visit South Bend?

The city has humid continental type of climate according to which June to August is the warmest season and it receives most of the snowfall in January. Fall and spring seasons are overcast and mild and thus are the best time to visit the city. If you want to reach the city through a different route, then the best route to reach South Bend is from Durham to South Bend.
