Las Vegas, NV, United States
Las Vegas earned the nickname “The Entertainment Capital of the World”. This means one thing for sure: you will enjoy every minute you spend here.
Another nickname of the city is Sin City. This infamous nickname helped the city to become a popular setting for numerous films and television shows. In reality Sin City means that you can try almost anything you want. Every fantasy can become reality in this almost magic town. Known for its casinos and luxurious hotels, Las Vegas has something for any taste.
Maybe the first thing after your flight lands at one of Clark County’s more than five airports is to visit the world famous Las Vegas Strip starting in Paradise and measuring more than 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers). This is the home of the hotels which you see in your favorite movies and many TV programs.
f you really want to see everything you may buy a 24-hour pass on The Deuce – which is a double-decker bus, having its route from the Las Vegas Strip, through Eastern, Flamingo and Sahara Avenues all the way to Las Vegas Convention Center. Another very simple way to go around is the tourist trolley system which arrives in every 15 minutes. Also, if you are lucky, the hotel you stay in has a free shuttle. There are 7 free shuttles operated by Caesars Palace, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino or MGM Grand, but not only.
Are you searching for casinos? Many of them are in the downtown area and in the county surrounding the city. It will take several days if you want to see all of them, because there are roughly 90 to 100 casinos in the metropolitan area.
A major tourist attraction is the Fremont Street Experience (usually abbreviated FSE), which is a pedestrian mall being five blocks in length. This mall is also the home of the Neon Museum. A more important fact is that if you visit Las Vegas in the winter holiday season, especially at New Year’s Eve the FSE is a must, because the city’s annual party is held here. Being a pedestrian mall from 1994 there is a parking lot which can hold up to 1,430 cars. The main attractions are the light and sound shows – as the Viva Vision – but there are also restaurants – as the Neonopolis with a 14 screen movie theater. For the record the displays are built from more than 12.5 million LEDs and the sound system has a power output over half a million watts – that’s roughly 11,000 times the stereo in your car. Almost a dozen casinos are here.
If you somehow get tired of the crowds and nightlife of the town or just want to rest a bit you can do it in one of the three parks. In these parks you can find lakes forming an oasis in the heart of the Mojave Desert or if you prefer active resting you may find interesting to visit the Origen Experience, the Desert Living Center, Springs Preserve Amphitheater or walk one of the four uniquely-themed trails – all of these can be found in the Las Vegas Springs Preserve park. Many of now world famous musicians have originated from Las Vegas, like The Killers or Panic! at the Disco – if you are into rock music, for the lovers of other genres can also find their favorites like 702 or Jenny Lewis. Also The Crystal Method's members are from here.
You have a good chance to witness local artist creations because on every first Friday monthly there is a celebration. This is called “First Friday” and is held in downtown area – called “Arts District” – to give a chance local artists and musicians to show their work to a wide audience.
Las Vegas metropolitan area is home to numerous sports events. In 2007 the NBA All-Star Game was held here, among others.
Las Vegas is definitely one of the best places to spend your holiday if you want to experience the lavish life of the rich and the famous even if for only a week.
