It is cheaper and better to travel to Mysore by rail, via Bangalore. Though there is an airport in Mysore, it does not cater to international travel. A better option would be to travel to Bangalore or Chennai and catch a bus or train to Mysore from there. Though the weather in Mysore is pleasant throughout the year, the best time to visit the city is in the months of October to March. Kannada is widely spoken here while there are lots of people speaking Dravidian languages like Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. The history of Mysore is a very rich one which has legendary traces. It was the Ganga dynasty that figured first in the history of Mysore in the 2nd century until 1004. The Cholas followed and ruled Mysore for about a hundred years to be followed by the Chalukyas and the Hoysalas.
