Puerto Vallarta is a resort city in Mexico located on the Bahia de Banderas of Pacific Ocean. Approximately 50% of the city’s workforce has been employed in industries related to tourism including transportation, restaurants, hotels and personal services. Other important industries in the city are industrial, agricultural and the commercial sectors. The city lies on the foot of San Sebastian and Sierras Cuale and the plain reaches along the Ameca river.

The major airport serving the city of Puerto Vallarta is the Lic. Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport which comprises of two sections: one for general aviation and one for commercial international flights. The airfield of the airport can handle 40 landings and take offs per hour and out of the 11 active gates of the airport, three are serviced from the terminal directly and eight are served remotely with shuttle buses. Several airlines including AeroMexico, Aviacsa, US Airways, Mexicana and Continental offer cheap flights to Puerto Vallarta at different times of the day from different parts of the world.

The Tepic Airport has been located at a distance of only 65.2 miles from the city and several airlines provide cheap airfares to Tepic from different parts of the world. If you are not able to get a direct flight to Puerto Vallarta or you want to take a longer route to reach the city, you can choose to land on the airport of Tepic. The Tepic Airport or the Amado Nervo National Airport is the principal airport of Nayarit and it has one concourse in one terminal only.

What to see in Puerto Vallarta

Pilitas and Pulpito are the two rock formations located at the southern end of the Los Muertos Beach. The Playa Conchas Chinas is the most secluded beach in the city and is a great place for people who want to be with themselves for a few moments. The Mercado Municipal Cuale and the Mercado Isle Cuale are the two public markets in the city served several restaurants, cultural center and shops. The Cuale Archaeological museum presents regional and local pre-Hispanic art in several informative displays including a small gallery to show contemporary art. The Saucedo Theatre Building presented films and live shows on the first floor and a ball room on the second floor but now, it has been turned into retail use. The beaches that you would like to visit in Puerto Vallarta are Playa Camarones, Playa Olas Altas, Playa Los Muertos and Playa Boca de Tomates.

When to visit Puerto Vallarta

The city of Puerto Vallarta has a tropical type of climate, making the season from July to September almost intolerable. August is the wettest month of the year and the month of November is usually dry. If you are planning to take another route to reach the city of Puerto Vallarta, then the route from Chicago to Puerto Vallarta may be your best option.

Nightlife in Puerto Vallarta

The city of Puerto Vallarta has a huge dining scene with such a large number of restaurants offering food specialties including grilled marlin, ceviche and huachinango sarandeado. Apart from that, the city also has a number of nightlife activities including night clubs, bars and casinos.
