The Wilmington International Airport has a single terminal having eight gates and two runways. The airport also serves two fixed base operations and currently has more than 100 aircraft. This international airport is just 4 miles from the city and maintains a fully separate International terminal that provides a Federal Inspection Station.

The Wilmington International airport has been declared to be an emergency airfield for any type of Space Shuttle and was a former military base that accounted for its long runways. In fact, the airport is undergoing constant renovations to attract more international and commercial business to the area. Jacksonville, North Carolina JACKSONVILLE (OAJ) (40.2 miles) is another large commercial airport located near the city of Wilmington.
