Charleston is known as the capital of West Virginia and also as its largest city. The city of Charleston is situated at the convergence of the Kanawha River and the Elk River of the Kanawha County. According to the latest census reports its population was estimated to be around approximately 303,950 in the year 2007.

Charleston's economy is largely influenced by the salt industry and the natural gas industry. Geographically speaking Charleston has a total area of over 84 square miles, out of which 81 square miles is land and approximately 3 square miles is water. The city shares its borders with Ohio on the southeast, charlotte being on the northern border and Richmond, Virginia on the western border.

Charleston experiences a varied climate according to the four different seasons. The city experiences a slightly warmer climate than the other cities of West Virginia due to its higher elevation level. The city receives a substantial amount of rain throughout the year along with a few thunderstorms which are usually witnessed in the spring season.

In fact the Yeager Airport is the largest airport in the state of West Virginia.
